Pro Staff angler Scott Nelson, and Charter captain Nate Weismann have been on fire lately catching Snook and Tarpon in Western Florida. With the introduction of the 10″ Divinator this year at ICAST, we had a feeling there might be some potential for their use on inshore fishing. The 10″ Divinator weighs in at roughly 3 ounces and so far seems to be the preferred size for catching these awesome fish.
After discussing some recent outings with Scott, we discovered that the current terminal tackle definitely needs to be upgraded for saltwater applications. This isn’t really a surprise considering the pound for pound fight both of tarpon and snook put up, let alone the hard composition of their mouth. For now upgrading the treble hook to a 3/0 4x seems to get the job done. Our team is considering releasing a saltwater specific line of products that will have upgraded terminal tackle for these types of situations, more info on that in the future.
On Multiple trips recently the Divinator has out fished live bait when being used side-by-side. Anytime you can introduce an artificial lure and have a better hook up ratio than its live bait counterpart, you know you are on to something great. We are very excited about this new future for the Divinator, as well as the growth and use of our other products for inshore fishing. The Divinator is available in 5 sizes: 3″, 5.5″,7″, 8″, and 10″. While we have mainly been talking today about the success of the 10″ model, the smaller sizes have shown to be equally efficient. Just this past weekend Scott’s significant other, Lisa Sparling landed her first ever tarpon on an 8″ Divinator in Arkansa Shiner Color. Congrats Lisa!!!
Finally, if you live in the greater Tampa area or have plans to visit and want to book a fishing trip you won’t soon forget, give Captain Nate a call (941-932-5609) or check out his website. Depending on the season and weather he offers trips for snook, trout, redfish, and tarpon. And seriously, let’s get real, who wouldn’t want to spend the day catching fish and having fun on a bad ass rig like Captain Nate’s!
